Write a 350-500-word evaluation section for your grant proposal that describes how you will evaluate your project’s progress and analyzes the sustainability of your project.
The Scenario:
Your funding source is interested in your grant proposal but now needs to see how you will evaluate your tasks and objectives. The funding source also hopes to see your plan to create lasting change – change that can continue beyond the confines of your project.
Your Task:
Using your proposal narrative and your new knowledge about monitoring, reporting, evaluation, and sustainability, write an evaluation narrative.
Your evaluation narrative will have two parts:
Part 1: Evaluation and Monitoring: This part of the evaluation section should tell the proposal reviewers how objectives will translate to outcomes. It should also indicate how you will gather data to monitor your proposed tasks and how you will evaluate progress on your objectives based on this data.
As you complete this section, consider:
1. Restating objectives as outcomes
2. The who, what, when, and where of data. Who will collect the data? What data is necessary? When will you collect it? Where will you store the data?
3. How you will answer the “so what?” question. Why does this evaluation help ensure that we meet our outcomes? How does meeting the outcome help us achieve our goal?
4. What kind of additional tasks must be performed to complete evaluation
5. Whether or not evaluation data needs to be shared with stakeholders. If it does, how and when will the evaluation data are disseminated?
Part 2: Sustainability Narrative:
As you have learned, the most successful grant proposals build sustainability into the project. Select the relevant types of sustainability for your project (financial, managerial, social, technological, and/or environmental) and write a narrative that explains how you plan to maintain the project’s benefits after the current round of funding ends. You might consider whether you will seek further funding from other agencies, whether current stakeholders will continue to reap benefits, whether those involved will be likely to continue your efforts, and so on.
Please reference two to three credible sources to support your sustainability plan.
