Is it appropriate to refer to people we don’t know by their apparent binary gender pronoun (him or her)
Is it appropriate to refer to people we don’t know by their apparent binary gender pronoun (him or her)? Or is it better to use the gender-neutral pronoun “they”? Do you agree with Manjoo’s view that it is simpler and more inclusive to ignore gender and use the singular “they” when referring to an individual whose gender you don’t know?
