Field Visit Description

CARS 2400 Field Visit Description Template

During the semester, you are required to visit a religious community different from the one in which you may have grown up or with which you are most familiar. For most of you, this requirement means that you must choose something other than a Christian (Catholic or Protestant) church community. (For example, if you grew up or belong to or attended a meeting of a Protestant (Evangelical, Lutheran, Anglican etc.) sect, a Catholic service will not count for this assignment, and vice versa.) If you grew up an atheist or a non-Christian, and if you have never been to a Christian church service, then you may choose to visit a Christian group.

You must attend a worship event of some sort in the community and then submit a 500-word description of the event and of your interactions with the group members.

Make sure you read the requirements for the summary, below—you need to connect what you experienced with specific content in the textbook in some way.

Your name:

Religious Community visited (name, place):

Religious Community visited (name, place):

Name of the worship service (e.g., Mass):

Date and place attended:

I affirm I have never attended any service in this overarching tradition before (type your initials to affirm):

Describe the event in at least 500 words, including descriptions of what happened, whom you interacted with, your reaction to the event, and how your  encounter compares with what we have been studying in the course (this can be either broad, as in the more theoretical aspects of our study, or more specifically about the religious traditions we have looked at). Consult the relevant textbook chapter for the tradition you are observing, if applicable.
