What is your understanding and analysis of feminist history
“Ain’t I A Woman” by bell hooks was written in 1981 and it raised important critiques of the White Feminist Movement and the Black Nationalist and Civil Rights Movements. It also documented the historical contributions of Black women as leaders in their fight for social equality. After reading Chapters 4 and 5 of bell hooks, class lecture powerpoint, and 4 short video clips, what is your understanding and analysis of feminist history, in particular the erasing of black women from that history? What were important issues/themes/ topics raised this week in Chapters 4 and 5? Who were some of the “feminist foremothers” that you learned about this week and why are their contributions important? Finally, how does hooks define feminism in her book by the end of Chapter 5 and do you agree with her assessment that many women today fear feminism? And what questions if any were raised for you this week?
