In regard\’s to the information in the article https://www.sentencingproject.org/issues/voting-rights/ there are millions of people in the world that are not allowed to vote because they have a felony conviction. I especially enjoyed an article on this site by Amy Fettig.

It was published June 22, 2021 and the title is Letter in support of the for the people act ( S.1), with Democracy Restoration act provision. I learned that in 30 states that people on probation or parole are not allowed to vote. There are many states that don\’t allow  individuals that are convicted of certain misdemeanor\’s to vote. It is unfair that people serve their time and pay for their crime and yet, they are still not allowed to vote. Its nice to see that there are people that believe in justice and are still willing to fight for their rights as citizens to be able to vote. I was also interested in learning that in 11 states that a felony conviction could result in a lifetime disenfranchisement.    I don\’t think it is fair to bar someone from voting, with is their right, just because of some mistakes that they are tying hard to put in their past. Labeling offenders is not going to help keep them on the straight and narrow. Making it hard for them to get gainful employment is not going to help them stay on the right path. A felony conviction can even prevent them from obtaining proper housing for themselves and their families. There is no wonder why the recidivism rate is so high among convicted felons. When they can\’t get a job they tend to go back to crime for money. It\’s almost like when you are a convicted felon that you are black balled in a way. Hopefully the movements that are underway to help convicted felons obtain their right to vote will start to open some doors for some of them.       Fettig, Amy.
