Ensure that the candy company produces and sells candy packages in line with The Federal Trade Commission
To ensure that the candy company produces and sells candy packages in line with The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a defined quality control process would need to be implemented. As a quality control manager, the process would begin with the development of a quality control checklist that would be utilized by the quality control staff in the company in alignment with the FTC.
The quality control checklist would incorporate all standards required by the FTC and FDA (FTC, 2020) . The checklist would be comprised of the following steps. First, it would be essential for the quality control staff to verify that each package of candy has the correct candy type in it, along with the correct quantity of candy. That being said, the quality staff would not have to examine every packet of candy, rather they would pick a sample from each carton and evaluate that sample to ensure the product was accurate. This process will be implemented as a sample, which would allow for checking and verification to occur without taking a significant amount of time. The allowable variation in weight of the candy packet would be 9/16th of an ounce.
The regulation agencies allow for a package of contents which states the quantity in weight to have a variation of 1/16th of an ounce, if It is expected to weigh anywhere between 11.2 oz. to 13.4 oz. (NIST, 2020). If it is found that the sample chosen from the carton contains candy packages that don\’t contain the right candy type or do not contain the right weight, the entire carton will be checked, and the source of error determined. The second step in the checklist will include ensuring the correct packaging material was used. The quality control team at this point will ensure that proper packaging was used to protect the candy during transport, in addition to when it reached its destination. Lastly, the checklist would ensure that the proper barcode and labeling were placed on each candy package. Both last steps would be performed by analyzing a sample from each carton as well. If anything is not compliant with the standards set and is found to not meet the requirements it will be set aside, and the source of error identified and corrected.
