Federal justices serve on the bench during good Behavior, typically meaning until they resign, retire or pass away.

Federal justices serve on the bench “during good Behavior,” typically meaning until they resign, retire, or pass away. Some have proposed a number of modifications to this, including rotating 18-year terms, staggered such that vacancies are uniform across time. Do you believe justices should have rotating, fixed terms? Why or why not?

I believe that this question is telling me that someone is not too happy with President Donald Trump\\\’s pick of Amy Coney Barrett and is in fact a little biased against President Donald Trump for being able to nominate three supreme court justices during his four year term. While it would be more fair to have rotating 18-year terms so that there is uniform vacancies across time, not everything has to be fair and equal. If everything was fair and equal, there would be no competitions, no first place winners, and no losers. While that does sound great to some, others know that not everyone is equal. We live in a capitalist nation where we learn to fight for what we want instead of getting everything we ask for on a silver platter. There is a word for that kind of equality though, it is called communism. And while believing that everyone is equal and everything must be fair is great, it is simply not how the world works and not how America works. This is the land of the free, home of the brave. If you are not brave enough to stand out and fight to earn your spot, then you definitely have a different mentality of what you want. The world is not all sunshine and rainbows, people have to learn to fight for what they want and understand that no one is equal to the other. And if you do believe that everyone is equal, then why would you support diversity? With all that being said, being a supreme court judge is the highest honor for a judge. They had to stand out from the rest of the judges and truly shine and make themselves noticed. They worked hard to get where they are and they deserve to stay there for life. Staying there for life is one of the perks of being a highly regarded federal judge that not many people get to experience. And with that much prestige, that position becomes more and more desirable to other judges which motivate the other judges to do their best and strive to get to that position. Granted, many judges will never get to that position, but this is why they have to always be on their best judge behavior so that they are ready for it when the opportunity arises. Furthermore, if there is a rotating term for federal judges, they would not be able to judge correctly because they would be thinking of reelection. And if they start thinking of reelection, their judging skills will be tainted and they would be judging in a way that would get them reelected, instead of judging in the most logical way they can. With that, corruption begins to settle in and our federal judges will begin to think with the wrong state of mind. And once we get that, there is no telling where this country can go with corrupt judges at the federal level who are only thinking of reelection and what the people want in order to get their votes, instead of logically seeing and judging in the proper way.
