What does current research or literature say about the policy you proposed?

Instructions

Now that we have had a chance to sketch a family policy, how might you use this week’s readings and activities to refine your family policy from last week? How does thinking through your policy’s implementation (breaking down how it will work and identifying potential unintended consequences) and assessment (determining its effectiveness) help you revise it for maximum impact?

Assignment

Critical Review.  Last week, you drafted a family-level policy with goals, stakeholders, mechanisms for change, and hoped-for outcomes — coming off our initial study of home visiting. Now, go back to your Reflect 6 and critically review it applying the information and insights you have gained from this week’s readings, lectures, and discussions.
Compose.  Revise and develop your draft policy further by addressing the questions:
Re-state the program or policy from last week’s reflect assignment.
Analytic Tool: Research
What does current research or literature say about the policy you proposed?
If current research on your policy or proposal is lacking, what research methods would you implement to observe or measure the effects of your policy?
How will we know that your policy is effective?  Cite 1-2 readings from the course about family policies that inform the effectiveness of yours.
What are some potential unintended consequences of your policy?
Describe how you plan to address those unintended consequences.
Propose alternatives that may make your policy proposal more effective.

3.  Conclude. Conclude your critical review with a revised version of your child or family policy proposal.
