Primary Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 200–250 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.
For this Discussion Board, please complete the following:
Review this resource comparing kidnapping and false imprisonment.
False imprisonment is the act of restraining or confining the movement of another without consent and within a bounded area, such as inside a room within a house. The act of restraint can include forced holding back, refusing to release or let go of a person, or tying or handcuffing a person.
The act of kidnapping is also similar to false imprisonment, but it involves taking the person, against his or her will from one location to another. The term kidnapping itself often creates images of a child (a kid) being taken against his or her will by an adult stranger.
Using the readings and this unit’s supporting materials, consider the following scenario.
An armed bank robber yells at the customers to get down on the floor, threatening to shoot them if they try to leave.
Support your answers to these two questions:
- In your opinion is this kidnapping or false imprisonment? Why?
- Adding the crime of abduction, in your opinion is there a need for all three freedom of movement crimes (abduction, false imprisonment, and kidnapping)? Why or why not?
