The Europe that is today is a stark contrast of the one that existed in the late 1400s, a period better referred to as the Eve of the Columbian Exchange. Affected by the prevalence of diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis, the populations of the time had such low life expectancies that the population at the time was speculated to comprise of about 45% under 15.
