Individual Case Presentation

To develop critical, ethical thinking as it relates to dentistry, you will deliver a 10-15-minute PowerPoint presentation on one patient case. Describe your course of action, based on a 5-step model (ADPIED). Patient name and any other identifiers must be absent from the entire presentation. You may use a fictional name instead.

Include the following in your presentation:

INTRODUCTION:

  • A brief description of what you will be discussing

ASSESS:

  • Patient demographics and chief complaint
  • Medical and Dental history with vitals and any medications or supplements
  • Social history/ health behaviors
  • Copy of radiographs
  • EOIO
  • Gingival description
  • Periodontal charting
  • Dental charting
  • Bleeding index and plaque score
  • 3-5 intraoral images

DIAGNOSE:

  • Dental Hygiene Diagnosis with rationale. Include interpretation of radiographs, perio charting and any other pertinent information.

PLAN:

  • Dental Hygiene Treatment Plan. Include rationale for your plan.
  • If applicable, describe any dental or medical specialties that could be used as well as the service thatcould be performed by the specialist, and any plans for referral.

IMPLEMENT:

  • Periodontal procedures performed
  • Use of preventive agents, if applicable
  • Supportive treatment provided, if applicable
  • Any other treatment provided
  • Any complications or difficulties that arose during treatment

EVALUATE:

  • Evaluation of the clinical outcome, and follow-up recommendations with rationale.

CLOSING:

  • A self-evaluation of the services you provided, if you were pleased with the outcome, and anything you may do differently next time. Include anything interesting you learned.

**Note: Any images or text used that do not belong to you need to be cited in APA format!

Do not use a healthy patient for this presentation. The patient must be periodontally involved or require special care based on medical issues/ special needs.
