On page 153-154 Ruth Benedict makes a case for ethical relativism. Read her argument and consider the following case. The Kwakiutl Indians of the Pacific Northwest have a custom in which a person who suffers serious loss may \”lash back\” at the hardship by inflicting pain on another party. For example a chief of the tribe lost his sister and his niece in an accident, and he called together a party of men to find a number of victims and kill them to relieve his own pain. Now these victims had nothing to do with the incident, and yet this society accepts that they are the ones who suffer in the end. What would an ethical relativist say about such a case? Be sure to define that view in your post. Do you agree? Why or why not?
