Reflection and Critique
This course challenged me to evaluate issues that are present at my site and decide on a current issue relevant to the discipline in which I am studying. The Problems of Practice information helped to narrow down the choices to decide on the most relevant to my site since there are many issues that affect reading and literacy. I feel confident that I achieved this course competency.
The Data Gathering Process
This course challenged me to use critical thinking skills in order to complete the literature reviews. These assignments required me to establish a purpose for research, seek out and analyze the information, ask questions, compare and contrast themes and ideas, and decide on the implications in regard to reading and literacy in the classroom. I feel confident that I achieved this course competency.
Outcomes of the Data Gathering Process
When conducting scholarly inquiry, I learned that it is important to be very specific when searching for scholarly articles. If not specific enough, the results list will be vast. It is also important to select articles that are within the past 5 years so that the information is current and relevant. It is important to make sure they are peer-reviewed and contain sources themselves. I feel confident that I achieved this course competency. In addition, this course required me to incorporate my knowledge and experiences in addition to new information in order to analyze problems of practice and issues. I feel confident that I achieved this course competency.
Personal Bias
The literature review assignment provided me with a lot of information on ethical behavior and diversity. I was able to assess my site and recognize areas for improvement in this area. For ethics, I reflected on the hiring and promotion that occurs in my district. I also analyzed the practices occurring presently due to covid. For diversity, I discovered through my research how beneficial it is to have a diverse workforce. I feel confident that I achieved this course competency.
