In chapter one of her book, Darling-Hammond (2010) lays out the conditions of a system beleaguered with inequity. She offers some shocking statistics that serve as a wake-up call to the need for drastic changes in the American education system.
In a 2- to 3-paragraph response, share which statistic you found most shocking. Explain why you chose that specific statistic and what you see as most alarming for our students. Do you believe these statistics are similar in educational systems internationally? Why or why not?
