In Meditation 3, Descartes attempts to prove the existence of God.  Write a 400 – 900 word essay responding to the following questions:

1) What is the purpose of Descartes\’s proof for the existence of God (how does it relate to his project of finding a foundation for knowledge)?

2) What is the relationship between this proof and clear and distinct ideas?  Here you should discuss Descartes\’s definition of clear and distinct ideas and discuss the subjects/disciplines where we find clear and distinct ideas. Your essay should provide an original example of a clear and distinct idea in the sense that Descartes. What problem leads Descartes to think he needs to show we can trust clear and distinct ideas?

3) What are the steps by which Descartes attempts to prove the existence of God?  Your essay is required to have an introductory paragraph with a proper thesis statement telling your reader what you will discuss.  It should be organized in the order of the questions in this prompt. To complete this essay you will need to carefully read Lecture 9.
