You’ve probably had more than a few projects in school that have asked you to include outside sources. Many of these projects may have asked you to follow a specific citation format and include a specific number of sources. Lost in this kind of project sometimes are the reasons why we might include a particular source, or when the best time to quote that source is.
In your own essays for P2, you’re asked to include three examples of writing from your community as sources, but of greater interest is what the quoted material from those sources can add to your own ideas. For this assignment, we’ll look at an article that makes use of a number of different outside sources and examine the reasoning and placement of those quotes within the larger article. Each quotation represents a different decision the author has made, and each decision might add to or detract from the article as a whole.

The author quotes a number of Twitch streamers in the article. Why bring in those other voices? What do you think their quotes contribute to the article?
Choose a single quote from one of the Twitch streamers the author interviewed. Returning to your response to the first question in this assignment, how does that particular quote contribute to the rhetorical strategy of the article?
In addition to Twitch streamers, the author spoke to Aurélie Joubert, a professor at the University of Groningen. What do Dr. Joubert’s quotes add to this article?
Why do you think the article ends with a quote, rather than returning to the author’s own voice?
