Family diversity can be portrayed in various ways, for instance, in same-sex families
My Post
Family diversity can be portrayed in various ways, for instance, in same-sex families, where gender-expansive parents adopt the children. It is crucial to acknowledge that non-inclusive surroundings affect children brought up in a gender-expansive family setup, despite their identity. When hearing non-inclusive, transphobic, or homophobic words in the curriculum, children with gender-expansive parents or guardians experience certain challenges. They are more likely to feel isolated from other children or students when they regularly hear communications that imply women and men need to be romantically partnered or that certain behaviors or characteristics are intrinsically feminine or masculine. This is because their experiences are not aligned with those presumed to be shared by every child (Malpas et al., 2018). This demonstrates the influence of multigenerational and cultural factors on a family system.

Teachers response to my post
You make mention that children when hearing “non-inclusive, transphobic, or homophobic words in the curriculum, children with gender-expansive parents or guardians experience certain challenges” my interests would be what are those challenges they experience?
Additionally, my understanding of gender-expansive is it is an umbrella phrase that speaks to one’s gender that is not within the typical societal terms. It is not a family system. When I consider family systems I think of childless families, stepparent families, nuclear families, and even grandparent families.
1.How can these systems demonstrate inclusion and diversity? Could an example be a childless couple (family system) who is gay (diversity) and the partner who works has healthcare that covers his husband (inclusion)? Your thoughts?
2. PICK A WORD OR PHRASE……
- Cultural Competence
- Bigotry
- Ethnic
- Assimilation
- Culture
- Bias
- Diversity
- Discrimination
- Ethnocentrism
- Prejudice
- Racism
- Now that you have picked a word/phrase, explain the significance of the word as it relates to cultural competence in counseling with regard to the counseling relationship.
- Explain your thoughts relevant to the word you have chosen in a paragraph. Discuss the significance or the detriment it might cause within the counseling relationship based on the dynamics of the following counseling dyad:
The counselor is Caucasian
The client is Black/African American
