Culture jamming is defined as the creation of images or practices that force viewers to question the status quo sometimes referred as Guerrilla Advertising or Guerrilla Communication. “It is the practice of disrupting the mundane of everyday life and the status quo with surprising and often comical or satirical acts or artworks (Cole, 2018).” This practice became popular by the anti-consumerist organization Adbusters.

The Adbusters website is creative and retro with added art that is comical and unorthodox. The organization is a Canadian media foundation that was founded in 1989 by Bill Schmalz and Kalle Lasn . They are not-for-profit, anti-consumerists, and pro-environment organization (Word finder, 2019).

Cultural imperialism can act as a form as advertising, for example, a brand becoming a symbol of globalization (Cambridge University, 2019).
