Briefly describe the articles you read and then evaluate these arguments. This part of the assignment will involve comparing different answers to the question, “What causes change in therapy?” Is it perhaps the treatment interventions (i.e., utilizing evidenced based treatments)? The type of change sought (e.g., first order versus second order change)? The therapist characteristics (e.g., ability to inspire hope, attend well)? The characteristics of the client (e.g., readiness for change)? Is it aspects of the therapy relationship (mutual respect, warmth, etc.)? Or something else? You are being asked to evaluate the strengths of these various arguments based on the required readings and any other readings you may find.
