Write a 750-word creative essay/narrative piece from one of the following perspectives:

“Description begins in the writer’s imagination, but should finish in the reader’s.”

Stephen King

Write a 750-word creative essay/narrative piece from one of the following perspectives:

The perspective of Pluto in “Black Cat”
The perspective of the old man in “A Tell-Tale Heart”
The perspective of Magda in “The Shawl”
The perspective of John in “The Yellow Wallpaper”

The perspective of Emily in “A Rose for Emily”

For this assignment, please use the first-person point of view.

Make sure to fully develop the events of the narrative. Consider what you know about the story itself, as well as the elements of fiction (plot, characters, setting, theme, etc.)
There should be a clear point to the narrative: a reader should be able to recognize your main reason for telling this specific story. (“Because it is an assignment” is not a valid reason). You memoir should be based on truths/events from the original story.

Rely heavily on description in the piece, paying specific attention to the five senses and imagery to convey scenes when appropriate. You may use dialogue in your piece, though it is not required.Give your piece a title.

Include a word count at the end of the assignment; this should only be a word count of the text of the essay. Do not include header/title information in your word count. Your piece should be at least 750 words (again, not including header information or title).

Word count: XXX

Note: You do not need to (and should not) retell the whole story from a new POV. Instead, you can use what you know from the actual story to shape your narrative from the new perspective. You could tell it during a time before, after, or during the actual events in the original story.

Example: A narrative from the perspective of Mr. Summers after Tessie has been sacrificed for the year’s lottery. What does he feel? What is he thinking about? Etc.
