Some individuals may find it difficult to differentiate between the counseling profession and other mental health professionals

Some individuals may find it difficult to differentiate between the counseling profession and other mental health professionals (i.e, social workers, psychologists, and marriage and family therapists). The similarity between counselors and other mental health professionals is the shared common concern and responsibility for the “psychosocial concerns and problems” of their clients (Neukrug, 2017, p. 10). In addition, the counseling profession has inherited similar theories, techniques, and interventions for effective treatment. Although there are similarities across these mental health professions, the counselor profession does differ in its approach to treatment that is often based on a humanistic and holistic perspective.

Can you able to give examples of how a counselor might approach a client’s mental health concern differently from a psychologist or social worker if their beliefs stem from a holistic or humanistic perspective?
