Have you made a conscious effort to control the impression others have of you

Q. Why do we seek to control the impressions that others have of us?

A. We often seek to control the impressions other individuals have of us to for a variety of reasons. Some of the reasons include to influence how they perceive us or influence how individuals view themselves. Additionally, others reasons include to ensure sufficient harmony, antagonize, mislead, defraud, or convey an impression to influence the definition of the situation. This is often achieved when interacting with others by manipulating and expressive behavior (Cahill, 2018).

Question for the class: Have you made a conscious effort to control the impression others have of you? In what ways?

Personally, I make a conscious effort to control this impression on social media. I don’t post anything negative about myself or family. In general, I usually only post positive events, and stories to keep family updated. Unfortunately, I have noticed that it also gives the false impression to some people that I don’t have any personal problems and can be a personal resource when they are in need.
