From the argument a premise was made to be true that led to a false conclusion
From the argument, a premise was made to be true that led to a false conclusion and as a result, conflict and/or harm happened or should have been done to resolve the situation. response should be between 200-300 words.
A friend landed a job as an assistant to an abrasive middle-aged woman. In the two weeks that she had worked for her, she learned that her boss was incredibly picky about her choices, and above all, she did not like to repeat herself. Her firm stance on competence gave a reputation of firing assistants for the flimsiest of reasons. On one occasion, the boss handed her assistant an assignment to complete in a few hours. As she was handing over the task, she verbally added that the assistant should use one specific reference material. The assistant did not quite get what was said and to avoid a tirade, opted to find out by herself.
She knew at least two assistants who had worked for her boss before. When she called and made the inquiry, it turned out that her boss almost always had a similar assignment done for her. Both former assistants confirmed that the boss had always preferred one particular reference material for that type of task. Confident that she had the correct information, she did the assignment remaining vigilant of the available time. Upon submission, her boss became furious and unleashed a dramatic outburst, mentioning on multiple occasions how she had wasted time. The scene ended with the assistant being let go amid frustration.
As is evident in the above experience, a premise was made and confirmed to be accurate by two people. The conclusion was, however, false as it seems the boss had had a different take for the last assignment. As I reflect on the event, the only thing I think could have been done to resolve the situation is for the assistant to ask her boss to repeat what she just said. Granted, this might have brought on a barrage of insults and possibly led to the loss of her job, but it could have also demonstrated that she was competent and paid attention to her boss’ preferences. Alternatively, the boss should have included the name of the reference material she needed to be used in the instructions she had handed out. That way, everything would have been clear to the assistant, eliminating the need to consult with previous holders of her office. I cannot see any other way this situation could have been avoided unless the boss was not that strict and intolerant.
