Johnson & Johnson is working with communities around the nation in “The Health Equity Innovation Challenge”. (Paige Gross, 1) The goal of Johnson and Johnson is to shorten the gap involving racial inequalities for health and mortality. (Paige Gross, 1) Johnson & Johnson is reaching out to some of the hardest hit communities searching for solutions to solve this issue. Johnson & Johnson is using several different sources in the communities and they are reaching out to organizations to help eradicate racism in healthcare. Some of these communities are specifically those that are dealing with health inequity issues in the Latino and African-American communities. Johnson & Johnson is also offering opportunities for mentors in the public health realm to step up and mentor young adults in the JLABS ecosystem. “The no strings-attached, no equity-taking innovation incubator of Johnson & Johnson”. (Johnson & Johnson, 2, p. 1/7)
The goals that Johnson & Johnson is hoping to achieve are:
Treat and prevent illness in the black and Latino neighborhoods
Equal healthcare in the black and Latino neighborhoods
Create Diversity
Help build trust in the community surrounding healthcare (Johnson & Johnson, 2)
How does their participation in the event align with their stance as a business in the community?
“Our goal is to bring transformative potential solutions one idea at a time, to one community at a time.” (Johnson & Johnson, 3)
Yes I do believe that their participation in this event does align with their stance as a business community. Their belief in providing adequate and equal healthcare to all goes hand in hand with their values of the company. Their goal is to improve healthcare in all communities but specifically where there are racial injustices. (Johnson & Johnson, 2)
Does the company’s involvement in this outreach activity align with its mission, vision, values?
Yes because they have a mission statement geared towards helping all communities, their healthcare workers, and by providing equal healthcare and healthcare opportunities to people on a global scale and this includes their local communities nationwide.
How (or does) the company benefit from sponsoring the event?
The benefit for Johnson & Johnson is to be a role model and lead the way to better health care for all and to eradicate equity issues amongst communities of Latino and African-American decent. Their goal is to help communities that are treated unjust and do not have adequate healthcare provided to them. They are also able to mentor new people which can inspire new thoughts, ideas, and possibilities that will further their cause and has the potential to reach people nationally and globally moving forward to the future of Johnson & Johnson.
How does the community view the company sponsoring the event?
From what I have been reading, communities are excited and welcoming. COVID 19 made people really see and acknowledge the disparities between communities of color when it comes to equal healthcare. This is inhuman and should not be tolerated and needs to be changed even if it is one community at a time. Change has to start somewhere and that is the goal of Johnson & Johnson.
