Assignment Instructions: Exploring Everyday Communication Models
In our first discussion, we\’ll explore the intricacies of everyday communication by applying the communication models covered this week—Action, Interaction, and Transaction-to a concrete scenario.
Option 1: Personal Experience
Describe a recent conversation, highlighting key aspects. If you\’re uncomfortable sharing a personal conversation, feel free to use a scenario from a movie or television show.
Option 2: Generative AI or Media Scenario
Alternatively, you can leverage generative AI to create a fictional conversation for analysis. If you choose this option, make sure to cite the AI tool used in correct APA citation. There are resources on APA citation in the Course Resources module in the classroom.
After presenting your example, choose one of the communication models—Action, Interaction, or Transactional—that aligns with the characteristics of the conversation. If you use a generative AI tool, it might perform the analysis for you, and that\’s acceptable for this assignment. In that case, include the analysis that was generated, cite it in APA citation, and evaluate the analysis that generative AI provided. Does it seem accurate given what you learned in the weekly learning modules and textbook readings? How would you explain the communication model and how it applies to the example in your own words? Which channels of communication are missing from chats with generative AI? The primary focus of this assignment is on your understanding of the chosen model and how it can enhance your daily communication with others. While generative AI can help you come up with and even analyze examples, the work of developing and employing effective communication skills must come from you.

Describe and/or quote the conversation.
Model Application: Apply the chosen communication model to the conversation example. Discuss the characteristics of communication evident in the conversation. Explain why you believe the selected model best describes the communication dynamics in your scenario and/or cite the generative AI analysis in correct APA citation and compare it to what you learned in this week’s readings and course modules.
Enhancing Daily Communication: Discuss how understanding and applying the chosen communication model can enhance your daily interactions with others. Consider the model\’s principles and how awareness of these principles can improve the quality of communication in various contexts.
Comparisons and Reflection: Reflect on whether the communication model aligns with or differs from your typical communication style. Compare the model\’s principles with your natural tendencies and identify potential areas for improvement.

Highlight if they effectively applied a communication model.
Comment on how their analysis deepened your understanding of effective communication.
Share your own suggestions for improving communication based on their examples. You should also respond to at least one post from your instructor.
