Due: At the end of the week of your Rotation ( NICU and Postpartum Unit)
Nursing Students supportive tasks checklist: The most important of all is that the students are Patient
Liaisons/advocates.
Administrative Duties (may include, but not limited to):
? Answering telephones
? Greeting patients
? Gathering patient medical history prior to appointment
Clinical Duties (may include, but not limited to):
? Taking medical histories and physical examinations
? Taking of Vital signs (BP, HR, RR, O2 Sats)
? Preparing patients for examination
? Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
? Instructing patients about medication
? Patient education as directed by Provider for special diets/nutrition
Your experience at the clinic needs to be followed up with reflective writing Each Day.
Steps to follow for reflective writing:
The report needs to be 2-3 pages that include all the topics below. Support it with at least 3-4
teaching/learning materials available at the site or other valid articles.
Follow the format below and answer all questions to get full credit
Introduction:
Describe your situation.
1. What you did and why you did it
2. Patient Information on one of the patients that were seen today.
3. What is her OB/GYN history?
4. What is her chief complaint about today’s visit?
Reflection on the action:
Was it easy/difficult, pleasant/unpleasant, etc.?
1. What procedure was performed on the patient?
2. Details on the procedure and the reason for it
3. What Patient Education was provided?
Reflection on what you learned:
1. How you might want to follow it up
2. What other people did and why they did it?
3. How you used your theory knowledge on the subject
Conclusion: Identify gaps
1. What other information do you need?
2. What are you going to do differently in this type of situation next time?
3. What steps are you going to take based on what you have learned?
