Augustine City of God and Platonism

Based upon St. Augustine’s “The City of God”, do you believe that Augustine provides support for the view that Christianity is a popularization of Platonic thought, as Nietzsche once suggested? Why or why not? How did Augustine both build upon and transform “Platonism” (that is, the ideas of Plato himself, along with those of his self-proclaimed followers)?
