Question: Consider the elements of Kohlberg’s Just Community, and DeVries and Zhans’ Moral Classrooms. Which elements of these two approaches do you believe help children move toward a more advanced level of moral reasoning. Or, should the goal be for children to just obey elders and learn to follow the rules? The point here is not to choose between the two. DeVries was mentored by Kohlberg and they were close friends. She was building on his work, but has specialized in application for younger groups of children. So, which aspects of the two program do you see working?

There is more to reasoning than just being able to give solutions and suggestions. The cognition processes that best equip children to be great people in the future are the one that work more from the inside rather than from the outside.
