Assignment Instructions: You are a Certified medical assistant working for an Internist. A 20-year-old patient comes in with a chief complaint of a small, painless lump in his lower left neck. He stated that he had been experiencing increasing fatigue and a 10-pound weight loss that he thought was due to “working and studying too hard.”
Describe your expected actions and findings related to the following subjective and objective data:
Subjective: Patient states that he has a small lump on his neck and has been experiencing increasing fatigue with a 10-pound weight loss in the past six months.
Objective: VS: HR 103, BP 122/65, O2 Sat 97% on RA (room air), Resp. 16.
Lab work: Increased number of WBCs and decreased RBCs.
What disorder do you suspect the patient is suffering from?
Explain the identifying symptoms, possible causes, and common treatments.
What medications and/or procedures might the patient require and why?
What role would you as the medical assistant play in the care for this patient?
