Wk 6 – Summative Assessment: Client Progress Assessment [due Mon]
Assessing progress is an important part of treating your client. Clients need to see that they are moving in the right direction to stay motivated and hopeful in their recovery. It is important for the counselor to assess whether the strategies, techniques, and interventions are leading the client toward the goal. If not, then the counselor should review the treatment plan and consider a different strategy.
An informal assessment should include checking in with the client to see how they feel about progress toward their goals in counseling. Asking for client feedback using Likert scale questions can be effective. For example, you may consider asking the client to rate their progress toward their counseling goals on a 10-point scale. This strategy will support your understanding of your client’s sentiments and help you adjust their treatment needs accordingly.
This week you will integrate an informal assessment of your client’s progress toward their goals.
Plan your session using the Wk 6 Collaborative Discussion – Role-Play 5 (Nongraded) to communicate with your group mates. Follow these guidelines as you plan:
Your role-play this week should build from where you left off in Week 5 with your client. Continue working with your client on the presenting issue(s) discussed during the intake session.
Continue integrating evidence-based practices that support clients with similar presenting concerns. Review the research you conducted in Week 3 for additional ideas as needed.
Continue integrating the counseling theory you selected in Week 3.
Collaborate with your group to plan the recording of your counseling session.
Review the Wk 6 – Summative Assessment: Client Progress Assessment grading rubric prior to recording your mock session to ensure you incorporate all the criteria you will be graded on. These include:
Integration of evidence-based theory or techniques
Note: Evidence-based techniques are different from basic counseling skills or techniques.
Application of a theoretical perspective in the case conceptualization of a client
Identification of strategies for client change that are supported by counseling theory
Identification of strategies for evaluating a mock client’s readiness for termination
In this week’s session:
Conduct a session with your mock client focused on evaluating progress toward goals in a role-play session with your group.
Complete a SOAP Notes Form to document the session.
Write a 525- to 700-word reflection on your role-play performance. Review the instructions to ensure you understand the guidelines and requirements for the reflection.
Remember to record your session and save it as an .mp4 video file to submit. Note: This week’s recording should be longer than prior weeks (15–20 minutes).
