Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a debilitating disorder that is difficult to treat. Clients with this disorder feel extreme emotions, and it is difficult for them to get beyond the feelings of fear and anxiety. Evidence-based strategies can be difficult for clients to endure, yet as counselors we know that this is the best method to help promote recovery. Counselors must be able to support clients in difficult therapies and encourage recovery.
Exposure therapy and desensitization therapy are effective strategies for treating obsessive-compulsive and related disorders (OCRDs).
