Section 12.1 discusses occupational selection at length and the many
theories as to why we choose specific career paths for ourselves. Not
only is this an essential part of our adult identity, it changes many
other factors about our lifestyles.
Instructions
Write a one page page paper (at least one page double-spaced, with
normal margins and font size, not including headers and footers)
answering the following questions:
• Using the different theories listed under the heading
“Occupational Choice Revisited” in Section 12.1, discuss which
theory best describes why you chose a career in healthcare. You
must list one of the theories from the textbook.
• Revisit any career aspirations you had through childhood and
young adulthood, discussing how they are similar or different to
your chosen profession.
• Discuss any factors in your childhood that led to your career
choice.
