Hello Everyone:
Target failed to protect its consumers back in 2013; over 40 million credit and debit card numbers, 70 million addresses, phone numbers, and other personal information were breached. The U.S. Department of Justice informed the company that the system was under attack. Also, Target received several notifications prior to being notified by the U.S. Department of Justice but did fail to act. It seems they looked the other way.
Target was not ready, nor was prepared for anything of the such. Target had hired a company in India to monitor a malware detection software installed earlier that year. The exfiltration was staged around the United States, then onto computers in Russia. This is when the company in India became aware of a problem and informed Target headquarters. However, Target failed to act appropriately.
When Target was first notified of a problem, they could have acted instead of not acting. Many issues could have been avoided and headaches for millions of consumers. Even know what the company they hired in India will do because of the Breech. Know instead of hiring someone. Get a better security system for yourself and patrons.
When choosing a password, make sure it is one that no one could recognize; that is how several people get into trouble this way. \”The greatest weakness in software is human beings\” (Cupertino Electric INC., 1). People do choose bad passwords quickly enough for another to figure out. People also click on malicious links, and such there for havoc will start. One needs to be smart when they work with technology.
I do recall with Target, I am not sure if it was this scenario or previous, but because of being breached, they gave every consumer either $10 off their purchase or 10% off their purchase. I do not recall if it was percent or dollars, but it makes sense for percent. They were doing that for a few months. They did that as their way of trying to regain consumers and say they are sorry for the mishap.
