Based on the novel Never Let Me Go

Assignment Instructions: Based on the novel Never Let Me Go:
Miss Lucy wanted to make the children more aware of the future that awaited them. She told them “If you’re going to have decent lives, then you’ve got to know and know properly. None of you will go to America, none of you will be film stars, and none of you will be working in supermarkets as I heard some of you planning the other day. Your lives are set out of you. You’ll become adults, then before you’re old, before you’re even middle aged, you’ll start to donate your vital organs. That’s what each of you was created to do.”

In contrast, Madame and Miss Emily believed that in hiding the truth “we were able to give you something which even now, no one will ever take from you, and we were able to do that principally by sheltering you . . . . Sometimes that meant we kept things from you, lied to you . . . . But we gave you your childhoods.”

In the context of the novel as a whole, whose argument do you side with? Do you agree with Miss Lucy that it’s best for the children to know their fate, OR do you agree with Miss Emily and Madame that it’s preferable to keep the truth from the children for as long as possible so they can enjoy their childhoods?
