Assessment Description
The needs of the pediatric patient differ depending on age, as do the stages of development and the expected assessment findings for each stage. In a 500-750-word paper, examine the needs of a school-aged child between the ages of 5 and 12 years old and discuss the following:
Compare the physical assessments among school-aged children. Describe how you would modify assessment techniques to match the age and developmental stage of the child.
Choose a child between the ages of 5 and 12 years old. Identify the age of the child and describe the typical developmental stages of children that age.
Applying developmental theory based on Erickson, Piaget, or Kohlberg, explain how you would developmentally assess the child. Include how you would offer explanations during the assessment, strategies you would use to gain cooperation, and potential findings from the assessment.
You are required to cite a minimum of three peer-reviewed sources to complete this assignment. Sources must be published within the last 5 years, appropriate for the assignment criteria, and relevant to nursing practice.

RULES FOR LARGER ASSIGNMENTS (NON-Discussion board assignments):
Assignments need to be turned in through the GCU drop box, not emailed, as this ensures we both have a record of all assignments attempted.
Written papers of greater than 500 words need to be submitted to LopesWrite. You will find a link to this in the dropbox when you submit your paper. I cannot grade the paper if it doesn’t go through LopesWrite – GCU policy. Anything over 20% will generally be cause for us to have a discussion prior to grading, but scores as low as 3% have been a problem, so I review each one of these reports. The enhancement with LopesWrite over prior systems is it helps with grammar and spelling as well, so take advantage of it. If you encounter technical problems with the program, please call the help desk, they can assist with troubleshooting these issues. Try not to add additional symbols to the title, this is the most common issue students have when uploading a paper to LopesWrite.
HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN MY CLASS:
NO QUOTES IN PAPERS/DQ – I am a pretty laid back instructor/person, but I am very strict about placing quotes in your papers/DQ questions answers.
DO NOT DO IT! I will make you re-write the paper the first time…, and the second time, it is an automatic Zero. I don’t mean to scare anyone with this, but it has been a problem in some of my past classes, so I want to be upfront with you. In a short paper of this nature you do not need a quote of longer than a few words, the more quotes, the less of YOUR writing I have to assess if you really understand the topic. It does not make your paper more scholarly to use quotes, but less, as you are only showing me that you can repeat what someone else said, not that you learned it.
Citing or referencing a long quote is NOT ok (or copy/pasting from internet and placing a source below) – you will receive a zero for this and if it persists, I will report the student for academic dishonesty.
