This week we will situate the history of Asian American Studies as an interdisciplinary field formation rooted in multiracial, multiethnic student activist movements from the late 1960s. We will learn that the term “Asian American” came out of this period as a collective political identity among highly diverse second- and third-generation students of Asian descent (i.e., American-born citizens of Asian descent).
