It is important to defend your position when discussing a scholarly argument.

It is important to defend your position when discussing a scholarly argument. The topic or issue being defended is the central idea of the research or capstone. Doctoral learners should have a good understanding of the topic they are presenting by collecting research on the selected topic that shows the background content and why this topic is relevant (Grand Canyon University, 2020). Showing only one side of the argument is not beneficial to creating a strong case for your reasoning. Being able to show the differences between topics and how your research was able to prove or disprove a point within your position will allow you to create a stronger stand. To create the ability to have scholarly conversation, multiple sources and sides to the argument need to be shared. Using multiple forms of evidence, claim, and reasoning that is not based on option, but is based on facts and research will give the reader the ability to then go into greater detail or build off of the information provided and extend on the topic.
