Title: Data/Business Analyst | MBA | UCSD

Location: San Diego, California

This person graduated from the Forbes School of Business at Ashford University in 2017.  At that time, the school was offering concentration subjects and he chose Marketing.  His undergrad is in Sociology.  While he was pursuing his MBA, he was a working as a Student Inquiry Coordinator for Zovio and within 6 months, he left that position and began working as a Data Analyst for Luth Research.  The timeline implies that with the completion of his MBA, he decided to go for a more sophisticated, technical role.  This year, he started working for a new company as a Business Intelligence Analyst.  It is apparent that his MBA has helped him gain higher employment.  Personally, a Data Analyst role does not appeal to me as I work with several Data Analysts on a daily basis and although I think it is a very good role, it is not really my thing.  This person and I do have a mutual connection which is a coworker of mine!

Title: Yellow Belt Six Sigma Certified MBA Ashford University

Location: Dallas, TX

This Ashford University alumni gradated with her MBA just last year and has two bachelor’s degrees, one in Criminal Justice and one in Human Resource Management.  Something we have in common is that we were both worked for JPMorgan Chase in the retail bank, but she was in NYC which I am sure was much different!  What attracted me to her profile is not her current role which is a Customer Service Representative for Southwest Airlines.  It was her title of Yellow Belt Six Sigma Certified MBA.  I have heard of this type of title a few times but I did not really know what it was so I looked it up.  According to ISISXSIGMA (2010), Six Sigma is a program that many organizations have the measures quality, process improvement, and strives for perfection.  It eliminates defects in a disciplined, data-driven approach.  This is something I am definitely interested in pursuing post-graduation.

Title: Senior Project Manager at Apple / MBA

Location: Vista, CA

This person attended Ashford University from 2008 – 2013 which is relatively long considering it is an 18-month program if there are no breaks.  It may have been different back then, but it seems she tried to balance it with her job as an Engineering Lab Manager for Teradata.  She earned a role as a Senior Project Manager for Education Professional Services at Apple in 2012 which I assume she had completed most of her classes at that time and could use that experience in her new role.  What intrigued me about this person is that she works for Apple.  I would like to continue working for big, corporate companies throughout my career because I like the benefits, culture, and stability.  If I did not work for JPMorgan Chase, I would definitely pursue a career with Apple and what I have learned thus far in my MBA program would help my odds at earning a spot there.  I think it would be empowering to work for such a successful company and learn more about what got them there.

Title: Executive Leadership | Culture Optimization | Business Transformation | Strategy | Board Member | General Manager US Strategic Distribution Partnerships – Chase Merchant Services

Location: Dallas, TX

This profile I chose because it she is a Managing Director (aka big boss!) in my line of business.  She has worked for JPMorgan Chase for 22 years and earned her MBA in Management, Strategy, and Marketing at Northwestern University in 2002.  As her title above illustrates, she wears many different hats as a leader, influencer, and driver of culture and innovation.  I have quarterly one on one’s with her to solicit career advice so that I, too, can continue to grow within the firm.  I have talked with her about the MBA program and she expressed that it has helped her a lot along the way.  As I’ve witnessed, I believe her public speaking abilities and her people skills have also driven her to where she is today and that is something I aim to emulate.  This is the path that I hope my MBA leads me.

Title: Amazon Retail LDP, Sr. Category Merchant Manager

Location: Seattle, Washington

This is another inspirational profile that shows how much one can accomplish if they do the legwork to work toward their dreams.  He earned his undergraduate degree at Southern Methodist University and graduated just a couple of months ago with a 3.96 GPA at the University of Texas at Dallas.  This list of programs he was involved in during his tenure as a student is remarkable.  There are several honors awards and many groups he led or co-led.  One thing I found interesting was that he called out the Golden Key International Honor Society.  I just received an email yesterday about joining this but I am usually apprehensive because it seems like these programs just ask for money so I am essentially buying into an award where I feel like if I was truly being awarded something, it should be gifted.  So, maybe I will reconsider the invitation.  This person has my ideal career path that I would want if I had the brains to do it.  He is co-founder of Salad Brothers which is a healthy Korean restaurant.  He has been running this business for 4 years while in school and began working for Amazon this month as a Sr. Category Merchant Manager.  Seeing that he graduated and earned a job at Amazon at the same time, I assume that the degree is what helped him achieve this.  He has an extensive “about me” section and his ambitious nature is very evident.  Although I plan to work for JPMorgan Chase for as long as they will allow me to, if something ever happened with my career there, I would love to work for Amazon and be part of a successful team.
