Analytical lens of Conflict Theory

Through the analytical lens of Conflict Theory, education is seen as a social mechanism that perpetuates inequality based on socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, and immigration status among other socially constructed markers of “difference”.

Using specific research-based examples from readings and other resources provided in this course during the first half of the semester, analyze how educational systems in the U.S. contribute to the reproduction of social class, racial, ethnic, or immigration-related inequalities.

Instructions:

Define Conflict Theory and briefly explain its key tenets.
Use at least two research-based examples from studies, readings or data in this course that illustrate how education contributes to inequality related to:
Socioeconomic status (differences in funding, access to resources, or achievement gaps)
Race and ethnicity (disparities in discipline, tracking, or access to higher education)
Immigration status (challenges faced by immigrant students, language barriers, or the impact of immigration policies)
