When it comes to abuse, there are no textbook symptoms. Many times those patients that are undergoing abusive symptoms present with bruises and unexplainable injuries or injuries that don’t match up with what was explained as happening, aggression, in children many times there are signs such as inability to focus in school and acting out. In my facility, I am not quite sure on the procedure for this type of situation, but I do know that if something such as this would arise in a patient or if I had suspicions, I would contact my manager and go through the proper channels to ensure the safety of the patient as a priority, but also making sure that the situation was being reported to proper authorities after using the facility protocol. For child abuse CPC would be contacted and for elder abuse or domestic violence the police department would be involved. Documentation is key when reporting situations because of evidence needed to prove the abuse.

I concur with the fact that there are no intact symptoms of abuse. However, there are general categories like emotional, behavioral and physical signs (Department of Children and Family, 2018) to look out for in case of abuse and neglect.
