Ethics In Action: A Case-Based Approach :In your paper, you are to carefully examine the case study selected by the instructor (available on Blackboard with this assignment document). Include the following sections in well-constructed paragraphs filling 3-4 double-spaced pages (Cover pages and works cited pages do not count towards the page count.) with 1 inch margins and 12 point, standard font (Times New Roman, etc.). These should be written in MLA style (with works cited pages). Do not use 1st or 2nd person voice.

Do unique work. Plagiarized papers will be failed. For information on plagiarism, see the Supplemental Resources folder on the class Blackboard site and/or ask the writing center. Do not use anyone else’s words without citing them properly according to MLA style. Put all quoted information in quotation marks and cite the sources as well as page numbers where they are found. For this assignment, it is not necessary (or appropriate) to use long quotations. If you feel that quoting sources is needed, don’t quote more than a short phrase (of no more than three words). You must then explain the use of this quoted material directly afterward.

The paper should include the following:

An introduction section that introduces the topic, the article title, and its author(s) and has your thesis argument for the paper.

A section summarizing the position and main points of the assigned article. This should state which values are in the article’s position and which one of the theories it is most like and why. (Only choose from the following: ethical egoism, Bentham, Mill, Kant, Ross, rights, or Aristotle’s virtue ethics)

Another section that picks a different theory than #2 (above) (from those provided) and determines what the position of this theory would be on the issue, its values on the issue and why.

A section that critically evaluates and contrasts the article’s theory and the second theory chosen by you on the issue. This should look at strengths and weaknesses of using each of these to address the issue. It should pick which theory is best to deal with the issue and explain why. (This is the source of the paper’s thesis argument.)

A conclusion section that wraps up the paper and restates the paper’s thesis.

The article source information is as follows:

Using theorist Kant

Kantian ethics refers to a deontological ethical theory ascribed to the German philosopher Immanuel Kant. … Central to Kant’s construction of the moral law is the categorical imperative, which acts on all people, regardless of their interests or desires.

Kant’s theory is an example of a deontological moral theory–according to these theories, the rightness or wrongness of actions does not depend on their consequences but on whether they fulfill our duty. Kant believed that there was a supreme principle of morality, and he referred to it as The Categorical Imperative
