Write a 1–2 page cover letter that highlights the leadership qualities you already possess and explains how your enrollment in the MBA program will enhance those qualities.
Suppose there is an opening within your organization, or an organization that you have been following, for a new leadership position. The posted description calls for someone who can lead across disciplines, can support and manage a diverse workforce, and has the ability to drive change, balance priorities, and make evidence-based decisions. You believe you have the experience and skills required for the position, and your enrollment in this FlexPath master’s degree program will provide added strength to your resume.
Write a cover letter that describes your leadership skills and explains how the MBA program will enhance those skills. In your cover letter, be sure you complete the following:
• Describe the characteristics you already possess that make you an effective leader.
• Explain how your leadership characteristics will help you build and maintain professional relationships across disciplines.
• Explain how your leadership characteristics will help you develop and lead a diverse team of employees.
• Explain how you believe that the academic skills developed in your master’s degree program (research, time management, academic honesty, and critical thinking) will help guide you as a leader (developing evidence-based proposals, prioritizing responsibilities, following ethical behavior, and making effective decisions) and support your continued professional development.
Because this is a cover letter, it is important that you are clear and concise and make your points in no more than two pages (single spaced). While references will be required for almost every assessment that you do in your MBA program, a cover letter does not need to have references. However, if you choose to cite material, please do so in APA format.
