Critically analyzing and applying a peace and justice topic to a Baltimore based issue.
Write a 1200 – 1500 word essay summarizing, critically analyzing, and applying a peace & justice topic to a Baltimore based issue.
Choose and summarize one of the following Peace & Justice topics from our course textbook: ch8 on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict; ch9 on Religious Social Teachings; ch10 on Liberation Theologies; ch11 on Active Nonviolence; or ch12 on Just War Theories.
Using critical analysis, argue what is most valuable or practical from the chapter’s discussions, and what is least valuable or potentially problematic or harmful; make sure to give specific reasons as to why you make these assessments.
Lastly, choose a Baltimore(city) issue to apply your chosen Peace & Justice topic to. These may include: police brutality, gang violence, implicit racial bias, income inequality, poor housing conditions, education gaps, food deserts, health & healthcare disparities, etc. Use & cite news articles from the Afro, Sun, Post, etc. (use the word “Baltimore” and your chosen issue in your search).
Include a thesis, an intro that outlines the content and order of your essay, 1-3 citations per paragraph (only cite our textbook and newspaper articles on your chosen Baltimore issue – do not use or cite any other websites or materials), 3-5 quotes (each quote should be no longer then 1 sentence, summarize the rest if needed), APA or Chicago style footnote citations, a conclusion that summarizes the essay & your argument(s), and a works cited/references page. Use 12pt Times New Roman font, 1inch margins, double space.
