What kind of organizational scheme does the reading use

Magna Carta Libertatum

First, create an outline (see an example attached) and a short explanation that make it clear how one of the lesson readings is organized. Please use one of two other readings. Do not use Volcanoes reading for your assignment. Second, create a document of your own that uses the same type of organization as the reading.

Your new document should be about a completely different topic, but it should use the same organizational scheme as the lesson reading. However, it does not have to be the same length as the original. A document of 300 to 500 words is acceptable.

Your assignment should include the following elements:

An outline that lists all the major topics and subtopics in one of the lesson readings

A short description of how the lesson reading uses organization to achieve a specific purpose

A brand-new document that uses the same organizational scheme as the lesson reading

Ask yourself these questions as you revise:

Does my outline make it clear what all the major topics and subtopics are about? Can a reader look over my outline and understand the gist of the lesson reading?

Does my written explanation make it clear what the author’s purpose and organizational scheme are? Do I describe how the author uses organization to achieve that purpose? Do I support my explanation with details from the lesson reading?

Is my new document similar to the lesson reading in all the right ways? Is it organized the same way, for example? Is it about a different topic than the original?

More Details:

Convert one of the readings from the lesson into an outline that shows how the document is organized. Then write a new document of 300 to 500 words that is organized in the same way but about a completely different topic. For example, if you outline one of the readings and determine that it uses sequential organization, use sequential organization in your own document.

In the outline, arrange the content of your chosen reading into topics (and, if necessary, subtopics) and provide short phrases or sentences that describe the important details (for example, lists instructions for how to take the ice-cream cone from the cashier).

Once you’ve created the outline, write two or three sentences that answer the following questions:

What kind of organizational scheme does the reading use (sequential, topical, and so on)?

What evidence shows that the writer uses this particular scheme? (Refer to your outline for support.)

What do you think is the writer’s overall purpose in the document, and how does this organizational scheme help the writer achieve that purpose?

If you feel that the reading you chose uses more than one kind of organizational pattern, feel free to mention all of them, as long as you support your opinion.

When writing your original document, organize your paragraphs in the same way as the document you just outlined, using a spatial, topical, cause-and-effect, or other organizational scheme. Your document does not have to be the same length as the reading, and it should address a different topic.
