A. Why do you think the President is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, rather than the US Congress? Do you think the founding fathers made a mistake when they gave the President this power? How has the war in Iraq affected your own beliefs about the President’s powers as commander-in-chief?

B. Why does the President have veto power? In your view, how does this veto power work? Do you believe it is a good idea for the President to have veto power? Why?

C. Why are the powers of the President greater today then when the Constitution became the law of the land in 1789?  Is it good that the President is more powerful today then when the Constitution was first written? Why?

4. Religion always seems to be a factor in Presidential elections. Yet Article 6 of the US Constitution says that there will be “no religious test” for public office. Does it matter if the President of the USA is a religious person? Why do so many voters want the President to “have” religion when the Constitution states clearly that the President does not need to have any religion at all?

The president is the commander in chief of the armed forces and not the congress because such a task is crucial to the nation and it needs someone who has got the faith of the people at heart. The US president is elected by the American people and thus people trust the presidency with running all the affairs of the nation. The US congress would take a long time to agree on decisions and at times, there is need for the military to react quickly to developing situations, thus it is necessary to have someone makes decisions without the necessity debates and floor votes. The founding fathers never made a mistake…
