There has been extensive discussion whether the juvenile justice system is still relevant today. Created in 1899, some suggest that juveniles today are much more violent than juveniles were over 100 years ago and that we should revert back to one system. It is argued that the court system should judge individuals by the crimes they commit and not their age. It is not important whether you agree or disagree with your teams’ stance, but rather that you are able to support your side of the argument with evidence and examples. In your main post, be certain to include a description of the purpose and guiding philosophy of the Illinois Juvenile Court Act.

Juvenile courts are tribunals that have the authority to pass judgment on crimes that are committed by juveniles. Since the creation of juvenile courts in 1899, juvenile courts have helped protect the society from juvenile crimes while holding juveniles accountable for their actions. Precisely, juvenile courts were created for the purpose of protecting juveniles from the aggressive nature of adult courts while also preventing further delinquency (Champion, 2001).
