Crime rates
Crime rates: This assignment is a 4-6 page, MLA paper, with at least one pie chart and one table as described below. This paper is an informative, cause and effect paper that looks at crime over several decades (of your choosing). When has crime peaked and why? Have there been periods of decline? Why? (See Index of Crime for statistics.) What kinds of crime fluctuate the most and why? This paper will include a thesis (see Chapter 3 R&C), supporting evidence, a conclusion, table(s), graphs, or other visuals, and works cited.
Quantitative Assessment (30 pts.)
Explore (organize, collect, intermediate): The paper and the visuals illustrates crime data by comparing types of crime and frequency. Because this is a cause and effect paper, students may also include data related to the cause of crime such as poverty, education, etc. For instance by showing crime rates during a depression or recession (10 pts.)
Visualize (create graph, intermediate): The student included two numbered and labeled visuals (one table and one pie chart) in the paper that was also clearly explained in the paper. (20 pts.) See my handout on Blackboard for preparing tables.
