Educational Biography

Educational Biography: In Kindergarten through 4th grade, I mostly only spoke Spanish. Therefore, I was placed in bilingual classes at my Elementary School. As you can imagine it was difficult communicating with my fellow class mates, except when it came to math. Math being a universal language, it allowed me to speak in a sense with my fellow students while we were doing math assignments. This sparked a sort of love to math in me, Due to this wonderful experience in Elementary School. In High School I found it to be very straight forward, meaning the teachers just taught the classes and gave home work. I don’t know if the teachers I had in high school were burnt out or just that they didn’t have a passion for teaching math.
My first college math experience started at Hostos Community College. At Hostos Community College my major was Electrical Engineering and I took Calculus I, II, III, Linear Algebra and Vector Analysis, and Differential Equations. However in my last year there, I changed my major to Mathematics in which I received an Associate in Mathematics in June of 2011. What made me change my mind in regards to my major were a couple factors.
First factor, I was working as a Teaching assistant coordinator at Morris High School (International School). Basically this is where we tutored High School students in math on the weekends. Right after this experience I realized, I wanted to teach math. Second factor was that I became the Student Government President of Hostos Community College for two years; where I was exposed to Executive Management in education.
With all these great experiences I have obtain in my life, now I come to the conclusion that I want to teach math to elementary students and eventually become either a Principle or a President of a Community College. In general, I would have to say that math has been a true constant in my life. Math interest me and has always drawn me to it.
