African Americans

My teacher said, “Remember that for each question you must respond in two paragraphs for each question. Each paragraph must have 7-9 sentences minimum. Each paragraph must have 2 historical examples. Your answers need much more development and length. Pay attention to your timelines. Your topic sentence, the overall idea you will focus on for that paragraph. Point? What claim is being made? What is the point of this paragraph? Information? 1 Information from readings or class discussions, 2 personal experience 3 representation in mass media 4 elements from popular culture 5 definitions 6 statistics … that support the point you are making…… Explanation? How does this information relate to your thesis? Analysis, elaboration, commentary upon that information as well as on your overall point, connecting the information with the point (topic sentence) and thesis. “E” exists throughout the paragraph—there can’t be too much “E”
Making sure you have got enough” in your PIE. Ask yourself how, why, and what questions:
What is the most important idea the reader should get from this paragraph?
How do my examples help me prove my point?
Why did I choose this quote? How does it help me?
How can I state this idea another way to make the reader understands my point?
How can I introduce this example or quote to help the reader see where I am going with it?
What are some consequences/results/ implications/ramifications of the information I just gave the reader?
Why is this information important? What does it suggest to me? To the reader?
How is this information related to my overall point for this paragraph?
Is the idea in the topic sentence fully explained? Do I need another sentence to elaborate on what I mean in the topic sentence?
How is this information related to my oerall thesis, or other points I make in this paper? “

1) If Slavery had legally ended and the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments were now included in the united states Constitution, why did African-Americans still face many of the same obstacles on their road to freedom after the Reconstruction Era? Explain specifically how slavery was re-implemented “in every way but name.”
African Americans continued to face discrimination and obstacles after the implementation of the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendment because the state governments used and created loopholes to circumvent the federal policy.
In 1877 Lincoln and Hayes – their policies during the reconstruction – Lincoln was against the institution of slavery, however he was till lenient on the south and did not do anything about civil right issues

1) What were the fundamental differences between Booker T. Washington’s and WEB Dubois’s approaches to African-American social upliftment? What was similar about their approaches and how do their ideas relate to one another?

Booker T. Washington and WEB Dubois wanted to help uplift African Americans from the wreckage of their lives, and their careers to stop black people being poor,to stop racism, and discrimination, but what they thought of achieving those changes were really different. Booker T. Washington thought that it would be better for blacks to get help from whites but still work for others like farmers, that they should not be really educated, and they should not ask for equality from white people. WEB Dubois believed the exact opposite; black people have the right to do whatever they want as white people exactly.
Booker was born a savler in 1856, and used to work as a slave, and struggle for social equality and voting rights, so he thought it would be peaceful for black people to work like that and get help from whites. WEB was born a free man and was educated at Harvard University, and thought it would be better for black people to have the right independently to get education, and work in a formal job like other people.
