Disasters and crisis
Final Paper/Project (for both CGPS 790 and 792) Students are to write a 4-5 page paper (plus cover page, abstract and reference page), including at least three peer-reviewed resources (i.e. journal articles, books). For students who are in the school counselor tract, research and critique how schools develop crisis preparedness plans. You may pick one school to look at, or compare two. Example of a plan (or website) could be attached to your paper. For students who are in the community mental health counselor tract, research and critique how agencies/associations (i.e. the American Red Cross, FEMA, Hospice, the United Way, Bereavement Organizations, ASPCA, the Salvation Army) develop their plans to deal with crisis situations. Example of a plan (or website) could be attached to your paper. Make sure to thoroughly read and review the crisis plans before writing your paper (i.e. what is missing; what is good about it; how could it be improved; how comprehensive is it?). For students who are majoring in another 4 discipline, you can chose to evaluate either an existing school crisis plan on file on their website, or you can chose to evaluate an organization s existing crisis plan (see examples above). The paper is due no later than Wednesday, April 24, 2013 by 4:59pm in the dropbox.

Disasters and crisis are likely to happen in places where there are many people at the same time. Schools are such places and the fact it young and teenage kids all in one place then the probability of a crisis to happen is very high. The school management should be prepared to deal with one in case it comes up…………………….
